When the Weight Won’t Lift — and Then It Does
Some days, you wake up heavy — and you can’t even explain why.
Life’s good.
The kids are healthy.
Your home is peaceful.
You're doing your role as a father, a leader, and a follower of Christ.
And yet… it feels like you’re dragging something invisible behind you. That’s what this morning felt like for me.
😔 The Heavy Fog After the High
Just two days ago, I was in church. It felt like a full-body reset. Like I could finally breathe again. The worship, the Word, the peace — it was real. I felt like something had been lifted off my shoulders.
But as soon as I left that building? It came back.
That weight. That sadness. That depression.
And the craziest part? I had no reason to feel that way. No tragedy. No crisis. Just this low hum of heaviness in my spirit that wouldn’t leave.
🙏 The Prayer That Was Different
This morning, I woke up still feeling off. I was scrolling on my phone, feeling lazy, tired, not motivated to do anything. I knew something was off.
So I prayed — but this time, my prayer was different.
I didn’t just go through the motions. I wasn’t just asking for the day to go well or for clarity or strength. I started asking God for things I normally wouldn't ask for. Deep things. Specific things. Bold things. Not for attention or reward — but because I was desperate to reconnect.
Then something shifted.
💥 Matthew 7:7 Showed Up Like a Bolt of Lightning
While scrolling, a verse popped up in a quote post:
“Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.”
— Matthew 7:7 (ESV)
It stopped me cold.
That verse hit different. It felt personal. Like it wasn’t just a verse of encouragement — it was a direct response to the prayer I had just prayed.
⚡ The Shift Came Fast
Shortly after, I got up and took a shower.
I made my coffee.
Something lifted.
I felt energy come back.
I felt motivation return.
I felt like my spirit got reignited — like I was on top of the world again.
And that’s when it clicked:
God didn’t just lift the weight. He answered my prayer — in His way, on His time.
💬 If You’re in That Heavy Space, Please Hear Me
Sometimes we’re doing all the right things and still feel low.
Sometimes we’re showing up to church, loving our family, praying, fasting — and still feel heavy.
But that doesn’t mean God isn’t near.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
That doesn’t mean your purpose is gone.
Sometimes the weight is a signal — not of failure, but of dependence. A reminder to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.
Because God will respond. He will lift it.
He will reignite your fire — maybe not through fireworks, but sometimes through a verse on a screen and a cup of coffee in your hand.
📌 Anchor Line:
“God heard me when I whispered — and reminded me that the door opens when I keep knocking.”
